‘DC League of Super-pets’ review

DC league of Super-pets is the new child friendly animated feature set in the world of the justice league, not the DCEU or any that we have seen previously but a new iteration; an iteration where many of the human characters are hideously designed. The redesign of cyborg and batman are particularly offensive to the eyes, or I thought so at least.

Good thing the film is mainly focused on a group of ownerless animals who gain superpowers, you guessed it, the Super-pets.

Kyrpto and Ace are voiced by the frequent pairing of Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart, who bring a solid amount of humour to the piece as dogs who don’t quite get one another and will learn to work together as all superhero team ups go. As seen above, there is also a pig, turtle and a squirrel, each of whom receives powers or a personality comparable the justice league members, guess they’ll have owners by the end of this. With the world under threat from a guinea pig raised by the infamous Lex Luther this team steps up where the Human league fails.

As an animated film intended for children there isn’t much to be said about this film, it’s somewhat formulaic. Big colours, stupid sounding voice and a few good jokes sprinkled in for the adults. Maybe a child might have an easier time resonating with the film’s ‘heart’, but I didn’t really find it too deep and meaningful.

The last thing I have to say as an interesting side point. Apparently, characters can be fulling on cursing and cussing in a PG film with the condition that the actual word is bleeped out. The turtle is foul mouthed…Wild.
